The Ladybird Johnson Wildflower Center

Spring in Texas is absolutely beautiful. I love everything about it, but my absolute favorite thing has to be the wildflowers that pop up all over the state, especially along the highways. Thanks to former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson, Texas has quite the reputation for its flora and fauna. In particular, we're known for our state flower, the Bluebonnet! There are literally fields and fields of them. It's breathtaking.

This year, I decided to check out the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, a series of gardens and outdoor areas overflowing with bright colors and an assortment of plants.

We spent an afternoon there just walking around and enjoying the sunshine. It's a perfect place for a family outing. You could even take a picnic!

There were wind chimes, water fountains, wildlife - so many things to see and that do we weren't sure what to start with.

The center offered activities and talks for explorers of all ages.

I'm not even close to being a professional photographer, but I imagine the center would be any photographers dream. Certainly a great place for senior photos, or even a wedding.

Some beautiful Bluebonnets

There were several different areas of the center, the one pictured above showcased a variety of plants and flowers.

My favorite part was the family section of the park. I think everyone enjoyed the variety of neat things to see and do. From exercise equipment, ginormous bird nests, a well pump and spring area to play around in the water, and even some caves. I felt like a little kid walking through here.

The inside of the cave. The ceiling was so low I almost had to stoop down... almost...

We had a perfect spring day! If you're looking to take some beautiful photos or just to spend a gorgeous day outside, the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center should be on the top of your list!

You can take a look at the hours and programs that the center offers here.
